World War II peace rally culminates

Kohima, Dec. 2 (EMN):
The WWII Peace Rally, organised by the Nagaland Adventure and Motorsports Association (NAMA) in collaboration with the Tourism Department, concluded at Kisama Heritage Village on December 2.
Aron, Anoka Vikaito, Diku and Norbert were awarded in the best original car of the World War II peace rally. The best uniform squad was awarded to Kanato, Kashito, Tonika and Kaka, while the most disciplined squad was won by Vinito, Kito and Inato Sumi. The best all women squad was awarded to Alebu, Velhukhalu, Keneichanuo and Kehoule-u, while the best tourism promotion squad was awarded to Tovika, Akato and Samual and the best-maintained vehicle was awarded to Imsukaba and Aren
Parliamentary secretary of tourism, C Apok Jamir, speaking as the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony, said the rally was to retrospect on the destruction and all that had taken place during the WWII particularly during the battle of Kohima.
A total number of 11 vintage WW II jeeps with 25 participants including 4 women participated in the rally.
The rally was flagged off at Multipurpose State Stadium, Dimapur, in the morning by Commissioner of Taxes, Mhathung Murry.

Departments of Information & Public Relations, Tourism and Department of Information Technology & Communication were felicitated by Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. on December 2 at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, for digitisation of Hornbill Festival 2017.
Business manager of Reliance Jio infocom Ltd. Kohima, Moatemsu Imkong, in his short speech, stated that the state government along with Reliance jio has taken the Hornbill festival towards a digital platform. He stated that the departments of IPR, Tourism and IT have set up a communication channel on mobile app “Jio chat” in the name of ‘Nagaland Hornbill Festival.’
He added that people from across the globe could get access to live streaming, video clips and photographs of major events at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on ‘Jio chat’ and congratulated the three departments for working tirelessly towards achieving the purpose. He also looked forward to such associations in future as well.
Director IPR Limawati Ao; Director of Tourism K Sekhose; and Additional Director & HOD of IT &C Tongtiliba Longkumer; received the certificates of appreciation on behalf of the respective departments.

Naga chef season-5 begins at Kisama

Naga Chef season- 5 Naga Chef, an annual cooking competition to promote indigenous Naga cuisine began at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on December 2. The competition is a live cooking event intended to establish a platform for any Naga cook, who have the potential to promote indigenous Naga food globally.
The annual event is being organised by Synergy Group Enterprise in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland. The event aspires to showcase the varied delicacies of the different tribes during the festival by the way of presenting Naga indigenous cuisines of high quality aiming at reaching the value of international standards.
The competition would include number of rounds to identify various skills required to be a successful chef and entrepreneur. The competition is being organised with the objective to promote ingenious cuisine. Naga Chef aspires to keep the old age recipes alive, besides letting the world discover the soul feeling and mouth watering wonders of the local cuisine.
The winner of the Naga Chef season-5 would walk away with a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh besides many more benefits and opportunities. Altogether 10 contestants are participating in the contest.

3D carving pulls crowd at Kisama

Kohima, Nov. 2 (EMN): James Lotha is not just another ordinary craftsman who sells his craftworks. He has made a distinction in the art of sculpture on 3D relief carving. James had sold two of his 3D carving for Rs 35,000 each at the ongoing Hornbill festival in Kisama.
James has opened his stall at Kisama named as ‘Home Craft,’ where he and his colleagues are selling plaster of Paris craft, decorative handicraft items and wood carvings.
The 36-year-old is currently based in Chumukedima, Dimapur, hailing from Yimpang village of Wokha district.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror Lotha said, “We are losing our traditional value, so it is my wish to continue the legacy through crafting and upholding the unique culture along with the modern concept.”
Lotha said he like 3D carving because the others cannot copycat what he is doing. Crafting was his hobby which he ended up taking it as a profession seriously. With seven years of experience in 3D Carving, he has sold around 20 pieces.
Lotha has been making 3D crafting for seven years since after he had learned at 3D crafting at Noppadol’s Wood Carving College at Chiang Mai, Thailand, where he undertook three months course sponsored under CM Corpus fund in 2010. Lotha said the 3D handcrafts were made from teak wood that requires a minimum of 20 days to finish.
“We are born in Nagaland where we learn how to craft at the very young age; we have a lot of scopes if we were taking it serious’,’ Lotha added.

NEC director visits Kisama

Director of North East Council (NEC), MR Mahapatra, who is on a three day visit to Nagaland, visited the Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on December 2.
He witnessed the cultural extravaganza organised by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZECC) on the theme ‘Cultural yours’ and also toured the exhibition halls and morungs of different tribes. He was also accorded a warm welcome at the media centre at Kisama, where he interacted with officials from the IPR department.

NTA organises city and village tour

Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA) has organised a city and village tour as part of the Hornbill festival on December 2 at Naga Heritage village, Kisama.
The main purpose of the tour was to showcase the lifestyle of Naga people domiciled in the villages and get to know the city better. During the tour, the participants would be visiting Kohima city besides Khonoma and Kigwema.

BJP vows for an egalitarian Naga society

Dimapur, Dec. 2: State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sounded its message loud and clear that its policies and programmes were directed towards development for an egalitarian society and not base on religious line as speculated by majority Christians in Nagaland.
BJP made clear its policies and programmes at the felicitation programme held in honour of Ramongo Lotha, retired Commissioner and Secretary, which was held at Hotel Saramati on December 2.
Addressing the party functionaries, State unit president Visasolie Lhoungu said the party’s main agenda is to develop the State and to elevate the living condition of the downtrodden section of the society.
With over 2 lakhs BJP membership in the State, Lhoungu said the Naga society has now come to accept the ideologies of the party and the only alternative to run the government in the State.
Reiterating the voices of the people for a change in the State governance, Lhoungu said that change could come only when the people take the right decision.
Also speaking on the occasion, BJP national general secretary and in-charge of North East Prashant Arora has highlighted on the eligibility of a candidate to contest from the party ticket. He said the selection of candidates would be decided by the central parliamentary committee basing on the win ability, credibility and loyalty to party principles.
Ramongo Lotha (IAS), retired Commissioner and Secretary of Food and Civil Supplies, said he had decided to join the party as he was impressed with the policies and programmes of BJP under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Ramongo Lotha hails from Pangti village in Wokha district under 39 Sanis Assembly Constituency.
Ramongo exuded confidence that Nagaland could be developed at par with other states by judicious implementation of the policies and programmes of the central government. He said the central would never deprive the Naga society of the facilities only if the state government prudently follows the given policies and programmes.
He has further assured to work jointly for the overall development of the Naga society under the BJP.
