Help Age India conducts welfare prog. for senior citizens

Dimapur, Aug. 20 (EMN): A legal and financial and rights awareness programme for senior citizens was conducted at Diezephe village on Aug. 20, by the Help Age India – Adopt a granny programme in collaboration with Prodigals’ Home.
During the programme, Nilondra Tanya, state head of Northeast, Help Age India (HAI) informed that Assam is the first state in India to enact an Act known as Pranam Act 2017 wherein it is mandatory for persons employed in the government sector to maintain their aging parents, disabled and unmarried siblings.

While sharing about the Assam state policy for senior citizens adopted by the state in 2016, he hoped that Nagaland would also draft and adopt a policy for its elderly soon.

Tanay also spoke at length about maintenance and welfare of Parents and Seniors Act, 2007 and Advant Age card, the card offers discounts, for persons aged above 50, from retail associates on various products, services and facilities ranging from health and wellness to holiday homes.
He also stressed on the importance of media houses to create awareness about the rights and facilities for the senior citizens.
