Imphal, Jan. 2 (EMN): Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday announced that all the accredited/recognised newspaper hawkers and their family would be covered under the Chief Minister Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT).
The CMHT, a health scheme introduced by the state government in Jan. 2018, will provide cashless treatment to the poor at government hospitals, health centres and other empanelled selected private hospitals.
The scheme will provide cover up to INR 2 lakh per eligible family identified from the Socio Economic Caste Census in the treatment of seven critical identified critical ailments – cardiovascular diseases, kidney ailments, neurological conditions, liver ailments, cancer, neo-natal diseases and burns per year. He also appealed the members of the association to submit the relevant documents so that they can avail the benefits under CMHT.

Biren was speaking at the 34th Annual function of the All Manipur Newspaper Sales’ and Distributors’ Association held at Khurai Nandeibam Leikai, Imphal East District.
Stating that an insurance scheme would be rolled out for the hawkers soon so that they get some financial assistance when they met road accidents etc, he said the government is also discussing for the introduction a pension scheme for the members of the association considering their ‘human service’ throughout the year.

He also informed that priority would be given to education sector in the government’s ‘Go to Village’ mission programmes so that we could provide good and quality education to our children.

Highlighting Prime Minister Modi’s proposed visit to the state on Jan. 4, he said, steps are on to approach PM to announce introduction of Asian university for higher studies in the state.
Minister for the Consumers Affairs Food & Public Distribution Karam Shyam while speaking at the function said that hawkers have the huge responsibility towards disseminating the day to day events and information to each and every house in the state.
