Health officials visit Phek to assess measles campaign

Dimapur, Nov. 8 (EMN): A ‘state monitoring team’ from the directorate of Health and Family Welfare visited Phek on Nov. 7 to monitor the vaccination campaign against measles, at Rukizu and SC Mesulumi village, updates on Nov. 8. The team comprised a mission director of the National Health Mission, a state immunization officer among others, it was informed.
The main objective of the visit was to identify the low coverage pockets and hold community meeting to ‘boost their performance,’ the updates stated.
Reportedly, they conducted a meeting with the community leaders of Rukizu and Mesulumi village and interacted with the village council chairmen, village health chairmen, village leaders, student bodies, religious leaders, Gaon Bura, and Anganwadi workers, teachers, and health workers, it was informed.
The monitoring team was said to have identified the reasons for the ‘non-acceptance’ of the treatment by various sections of the area. Some of the reasons reportedly included rumours that were circulated in social media.
The team of health officials are said to have urged the community leaders to educate the villagers and to continue to encourage the resisting families to come forward for the MR campaign for the benefit of the children and for the future generation.
