Guv stresses on emotional integration of ESM

KOHIMA, OCTOBER 21: Governor PB Acharya, who is also the president of Rajya Sainik Board (RSB), stressed on “empowerment by education” and “emotional integration” of Ex-Servicemen (ESM) to foster better understanding among the members.
Speaking at the 22nd annual meeting of RSB and State Managing Committee for Rehabilitation of Ex-Servicemen on October 21 at Banquet Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, Governor said creation of a special fund of Rs one crore for students from families of ex-servicemen for skill education would be a great way to showcase appreciation to ex-servicemen. He also stressed the need to broaden our outlook and contribute towards the welfare of Ex-servicemen.
Stating that creation of funds will serve as an example in the minds of the people towards welfare of Ex-servicemen, he said focusing on the emotional integration of Ex-servicemen will help foster better understanding among each other. Terming the welfare of Ex-servicemen as an important task, he urged the society to contribute.
He complimented Brigadier KK Roy Choudhury, SM, VSM (Retd) and his staff for their efforts in resolving problems and grievances of Ex-servicemen. He also requested the State, Home & Finance departments, MOD, HQ 3 Corps and IGAR (North) to continue their assistance to the Directorate of Sainik Welfare & Resettlement.For the benefit to Ex-servicemen in remote areas, the Governor requested the Zila Sainik Welfare Offices and Deputy Commissioners for greater participation and interaction in various events and welfare measures.
Home Minister, Y Patton, speaking on behalf of the Chief Minister, said since soldiers retire at an early age, welfare and resettlement for them was of utmost importance. Since Nagaland lacks major industries and corporate sectors, he said setting up of small scale industries to develop skills and vocational training was necessary.
He apprised the Directorate for conducting vocation training and facilitating in conduct of recruitment rally as well as pre-recruitment coaching for Naga youth to join defence services. The Home minister also said that issues which were under process should be resolved at an earlier time frame and that all possible assistance would be provided to Ex-servicemen, widows and dependents by the state government.
Presentation was given by Brigadier KK Roy Choudhury, SM, VSM (Retd), where the progress and action taken in the last meeting and new agenda to be taken up were discussed. The new agendas included allocation of fund for computerisation for which a sum of Rs 14,00,000 was proposed as a onetime grant while 75% of the expenditure will be re-imbursed by the Kendriya Sainik Board, Government of India and MOD. A two minute silence was observed as a respect to the 9 ex-servicemen who have died in the past years.
Meanwhile in the first of its kind, Kiphire Police observed the Police Commemoration day in honour of the fallen Police Martyrs at its unit Quarter Guard, Kiphire, on October 21.
SP Kiphire, Ben Longkumer, in his exhortation, highlighted on the significance of the day and read out the list of the 473 police martyrs of the country.
A befitting commemoration parade to respect, honour and remember the fallen martyrs was also presented by all the different components of the Nagaland Police.
The programme was attended by the Deputy Commissioner and other officials including public leaders and elders etc.
