Governor PB Acharya has called upon the people to work together in making Nagaland a great and prosperous State and also appealed to all the factions to join the peace process for a graceful and permanent solution of the Naga problem.

First December is, indeed, a memorable day in the political history of Nagaland, for it was on this day in 1963 that Nagaland became the 16th State of the Indian Union. This Day marked the fulfillment of a cherished aspiration of the people and gave an added responsibility to them to shape their own destiny. Statehood gave to the people of Nagaland a distinct identity and individuality besides providing them ample opportunities to shape the destiny of their land. We celebrate Hornbill Festival to commemorate our Statehood and resolve to preserve our distinct culture and traditions.”

We have to look back and take pride in the progress we have made as a State. This is the result of our collective effort.”
On the scenario of state economy, the governor said, “Ours is a agricultural society. Our organic produce must have a proper market and our kissans should be a prosperous record. Our backward areas like Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire and Longleng required a special attention for the equal development.”

“We have to fulfil the dreams envisioned by our founding fathers by making an agenda for the future. It should be an agenda that helps the youth to constructively and positively contribute to the growth and development of this beautiful State.”
On the development in various sectors, he said, the State has registered phenomenal progress in the field of health-care, education, social services, hospitality, tourism, culture, agriculture, horticulture, and IT sectors by virtue of which, the state could make a distinct mark in the national mainstream. The state’s rapid strides in planned socio-economic development especially in the fields of infrastructure and development and tourism are commendable, he said.
“I wish peace and prosperity to the people of Nagaland and hope that the state would scale new heights in over all development and thus would contribute to the progress and prosperity of the nation. Today we have to strengthen unity and march on with a sole mission of peace and progress. Peace has been the most cherished goal for the State for all these years. We have to have peace in order to have growth and development.
Today, we mark not merely the end of a problem, but the beginning of a new era since the Government of India under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modij, Prime Minister of India has signed a historic framework agreement with the NSCN (IM) on 3rd August 2015 and this agreement is a shining example of what we can achieve when we deal with each other in a spirit of equality and respect, trust and confidence.”
