Dimapur, April 8: In view of the upcoming general elections to the Lok Sabha, various enforcement agencies have enhanced vigil to seize cash, liquor, precious metals and illegal substances meant for use during the elections in the country. The total seizure made in the entire country as of April 8 was INR 1862.5 cr, according to the Election Commission of India.
The highest seizure of cash, liquor, illegal substances and other items worth INR 513.44 cr was accounted for in Gujarat. Tamil Nadu stands in second place with a total seizure of INR 410.46 cr.
Lakshadweep, with a total seizure amount of INR 0.0045 cr., recorded the lowest.
Among the northeastern states, Manipur tops the list with INR 30.1239 cr. As of April 7, the total seizure made in Nagaland was INR 3.01 cr., which includes INR 1.75 cr. worth assorted liquor and INR 0.34 cr. worth 221 kg of “drugs and narcotics.” Sikkim, with seizure amount of INR 0.168 CR., recorded the lowest among NE states.
The total amount of cash seized in the country was INR 509.062 cr., liquor worth INR 181.991 cr., drugs and narcotics worth INR 718.867 cr., precious metals worth INR 414.425 cr., and “other freebies and items” worth INR 38.1529 cr., bringing the grand total to INR 1862.5 cr.
