Dimapur, August 12 (EMN): With the objective to disseminate new technology and impart trainings on various Agri and Allied technology, Guava Farm School was inaugurated at Pfuchama village under the technical guidance of ATMA Jakhama Block, on August 9. The farm is situated at Tsedukha range, 5 Km away from Pfuchama village belonging to a progressive farmer, Lezotuo Paphino.
BTT Convener, Jakhama Block, Wabang Longkumer in his keynote address highlighted the objectives of a farm school and the duties of a farm school teacher where he should be a link between progressive farmers and disseminate new technologies to fellow farmers. He also shared a brief history of guava fruit and how it came to be known in Nagaland. He added that it is an indigenous fruit propagated either through birds or other animals and eventually spread all over.
Guava, also called ‘the apple of the tropics’ with its rich source of vitamin C is one of the important commercial fruits in India having medicinal values, he said.

He also congratulated the newly appointed farm school teacher and encouraged him to keep up his good works and to motivate his fellow farmers in the days to come.
The farm school teacher shared his experiences and motives in starting guava plantation ten years ago. Initially he said he faced many obstacles but he didn’t lose hope and today the fruit bears him much hope.
