GTMS celebrates platinum jubilee

Dimapur, Nov. 11 (EMN): Government Town Middle School (GTMS) today celebrated its platinum jubilee with SI Jamir, Advisor of Urban Development, as the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Jamir said that under the centrally aided scheme of project Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), schools would overcome the situation of flooding during summer months which normally disrupts the normal functioning of the school.

“It is a situation faced by the entire State and I hope it will help not just the school but the State,” he said.

Stating that the school was one of the oldest learning institutes not just in Dimapur but in the entire State, the chief guest urged the school authority to endeavour in order to make the school as one of the most important learning centres in Nagaland.

He has congratulated everyone especially the elders of United Colony, who have given their best to improve the institution. He also appealed the students to be in a position to compete with others to become leaders of the State.

SDEO, Dimapur, T Kiyelu Yepthomi, and chairman of United Colony G Kits, also addressed the gathering.

A brief history of the school was also shared by Megolhubino, the school head teacher. It was mentioned that the school first started in 1942 as Assamese Vernacular Government Middle School. The classes were subsequently upgrade through the years in 1978, 1981, 1987 and in 2013 to Standard VIII.
