Dimapur Jan. 9: The Gorkha Students’ Union (GSUD), annual sports meet 2017 got underway on Monday, January 9 at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) ground, Half Nagarjan with the motive of bringing unity among the Gorkha community.
The opening ceremony was graced by chief guest Kumar Subba, chairman of Dimapur Gorkha Union who later addressed the players about a rough estimation of Gorkha’s population in India which is almost 125 crore where some are engaged in the field of sports mainly in football . During his speech he mentioned about Baichung Bhutia the former captain of the Indian football team who came from a small state like Sikkim but through his hard work and dedication made his people proud.
He shared an old saying, ‘A tiny piece of gold is more precious than many broken glasses.’ At the end of his message, he emphasised on determination, endurance and sense of responsibility to achieve success in life.
The three day annual sports meet of GSUD will conclude on January 11, 2017.
