Govt. personnel learn workplace best practices

A 12-day long training program for Phek district sponsored by the Government of India and organized and conducted by the Administrative Training Institute concluded at Shilloi Lake on the February 7.
In the program started on January 27, the organizers said in a press release issued to the media on Wednesday, February 10. During the training event various topics on personality development such as personal effectiveness, personal and organisational values, qualities of a good employee, verbal and non-verbal communication, citizen-centric behaviour, e-governance, problem-solving, and decision making; conflict management, leadership and team building, goal-setting, time management, stress management, emotional intelligence, and even the sanitation program. Discourse about the topics was given by the district master trainers who were trained by the DOPT at Kolkata earlier.
Other topics on office procedures were taken up by Dr. Hovithal N Sothu. Topics under said category comprised the Nagaland Government Servants Conduct Rules 1968, Nagaland Services Discipline and Appeal Rules 1967; file management, noting skills, drafting skills, different forms of communication in the government’, “maintenance of service book”, and the Right to Information Act 2005, Leave Rules and duties and responsibilities of assistants.
During the event, the deputy commissioner of Phek district Moruhu Chotso also exhorted the participants. He attended the program on the 4th of February. In his address, the deputy commissioner mentioned that ‘things have changed a lot in Nagaland’ between his days of joining service and the present day.
The current training is ‘equivalent to 10 years of experience,’ he said. The district administrator encouraged the participants to be committed to their work and ‘bring about the required change in the society.’
As part of the program, the participants were taken to various villages and outposts in Phek. They included old Thewati, new Thewati , and Liitsam villages under Pungkhuri headquarter, for field study, to study ‘village functioning with special reference to role of women’, livelihood of the villages with special reference to agricultural practices, education, disaster with special reference to the flash flood of 2015, health, transportation and communication, and welfare schemes of the government for the rural areas.
The valedictory function for the training event was conducted on the 7th of February at Shilloi lake. Lithrongla G Chishi, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland for the Transport department attended the event as the guest of honour.
In her speech, Chishi stressed on the trainees the need to be ‘more dedicated and committed to work.’ She also desired that government servants ‘maintain office timings.’ She also impressed upon the participants to ‘help the public without fear or prejudice.’
All together 37 participants attended the training program. They were awarded with certificates stating their participation, by the director.
