Dimapur, June 14 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland PB Acharya conducted meeting with the Vice Chancellors (VC) of universities and various organisations on June 14 at a Raj Bhavan in Kohima. A press update from the governor’s Public Relation Officer informed on Thursday.
In the meeting, the governor stated that the President of India has urged the governors to convene meetings with the VC of the state universities from time to time and inspire them towards the university social responsibility. He emphasised that universities and its affiliated college students should visit villages on a regular intervals. They should engage with the villagers in regard to cleanliness, literacy, and immunization. They should be game changers to identify the beneficiaries for central and state flagship programmes, the update stated.
Speaking at the meeting, Acharya also stated that the President of India, in his speech during the closing ceremony of the governor’s conference, said that universities should try to digitise process including admission application and certificate distribution. The universities should focus on skill development and employment generation activities including internship. They should develop centre for excellence on at least a subject, the press release added.
The governor has called upon various organisations such as Rajya Sainik Board, Red Cross Society, Bharat Scout and Guides, and North East Zone Cultural Centre to work on modalities about how to strengthen the society. He said that the hidden energy of these organisations should be utilise to reach out to the people living in the remote areas.
The meeting also decided that the World Yoga Day 2018 will also be organised at the Raj Bhavan on June 21 with participation from university students and other organisations. The governor also suggested quiz competitions about welfare projects of central and state governments coinciding with 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi be conducted.
