The Home Guards and Civil Defence personnel serve as auxiliary support to the Police and Civil administration and help in maintaining law and order as also in coping with disasters like fire, floods, epidemics etc. They render vital and absolutely valuable service to society. I am confident that they will continue to work with the same zeal keeping service before self in serving the society and the Nation,” said Acharya in a statement.

Message from CM Neiphiu Rio
“I am happy to learn that the Home Guards and Civil Defence is celebrating its Raising Day on the 6th of December, 2018. Originally raised as a subsidiary force for aiding the state police and civil administration in maintenance of law and order, over the years the role and responsibilities of Home Guards and Civil Defence have grown hugely,” said Rio in a statement. “Today, in addition to its primary role as a reserve force, it forms part of the dedicated State Disaster Response Force and is one of the first response teams in attending to natural and manmade calamities and other emergencies.”

“I extend my warmest greeting and felicitations to the members of the Home Guards and Civil Defence for the yeoman service rendered by them for the people in distress and especially during emergency situations, natural calamities, accidents etc. I also salute them for the voluntary service performed by them for society…I wish them success in all their future missions,” added CM.
