Longwa chief Angh’s residence and Tourism guest house constructed under MP Fund

Dimapur, October 28 : Governor PB Acharya was all praise for Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio for adopting a beautiful place like Longwa village and proving the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of adopting villages of India by each of the MPs and in making them a model village.

The Governor inaugurated the residence of chief Angh of Longwa at Longwa village in Mon district on Friday. The construction of the residence of the Angh was completed after 9 months of ceaseless work by an all-Naga construction team.
Acharya also inaugurated the Tourism guest house located near the chief Angh’s residence in the village on the day. Both the Angh’s residence and the Tourism guest house were constructed under the MP Innovative Fund at a cost of Rs 1.3 crore.

A public reception preceded by a guard of honour at Longwa local ground was accorded to the Governor on the occasion.

Addressing a large gathering, Acharya expressed his happiness to inaugurate the chief Angh’s house, which, he said, is a symbol of unity.

The Governor said he had decided to journey by road to Longwa to understand the plight of the people but was very disappointed to see the deplorable condition of the road.

“As we are now in the 21st century, all of Nagaland needs to be empowered equally,” he stated.

Quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi who described India as ‘a land of villages’, the Governor said though the Central Government has started many schemes for the farmers but unfortunately it is not reaching the people. Therefore, he stressed that corruption must be rooted out.

“God has given us many resources including minerals and oil, which can help us make ‘a golden Nagaland’,” he said while focusing on the importance of providing education, electricity and employment. Acharya further said, “If we want peace we should be in peaceful coexistence and in harmony with neighbours as most of the Northeast India shares international border. If these states are in peace than India will be in peace.”

He also urged the people to respect the diversity of India and be proud to be Indian. In this regard, he requested the people to respect one’s own native tongue as their identity.

The Governor further urged the leaders to change their mindset and be a giver to be a great achiever.

In his address, Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio said, “Narendra Modi’s vision for development has reached the village”. He was the guest of honour on the occasion.

Rio said Longwa village was adopted through the MP Fund due to its historical and traditional significance as a symbol of unity, not only for the Konyaks but for all the Nagas wherever they may be.

“We are one people and the historical house showcases our rich culture and traditions,” Rio further stated. However, along with preservation of our history there also needs to be development and progress, he added. He observed that earlier the Nagas were recognised as tribals but with the political issue and the uniqueness of Naga history the world recognises the Nagas as people.

Rio thanked the delegates for being part of the inaugural programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, Tonyei Phowang, the chief Angh of Longwa village, expressed his gratitude to MP Rio for adopting the village and constructing the chief Angh’s residence. He said the MP has made the right choice as Longwa village is located on the Indo-Myanmar border and people of all nations visit it. Interestingly, the chief Angh’s family was blessed with a son a week ago, providing a heir to the Angh lineage.

In a show of solidarity of Naga brotherhood, MLAs and delegates from Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Myanmar attended the inaugural programmes. MLAs Imkong Imchen, Noke Konyak, Zhaleo Rio, Neiphrezo Keditsu and Pohwang, who was the co-host of the function, were in attendance. MLA from Sagaing region of Myanmar Lo Young and MLA from Arunachal Pradesh Gabrield Wangsu were also present.

DC Mon W Honje Konyak presided over the programme while the welcome address was delivered by chairman of Longwa Village Council Longhkhong, construction report by district planning officer Mon and vote of thanks by EAC Phomching Tsenthungo E Ngullie.
