Speaking at an interaction session jointly organised by Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC) and North East People’s Association Mangaluru (NEPAM), in association with Alva’s Education Foundation on December 26 at SDM College seminar hall, Mangaluru, Acharya said, ‘Empowering people with education is the great job one can do for his country. It’s only through education a nation can achieve something admirable and stand unique.’

He also said the attributes of three Es (Education, Electricity and Employment) are the present inevitable concept of development.

Describing northeast as a cultural mosaic of various ethnic groups having its own unique history, culture, language, identity, Acharya expressed concern that this unique cultural heritage of the region has not even become partially recognised by the rest of the country. He, however, said attempts are being made to flourish cultural diversity of this country.

He also termed North Eastern states as ‘NAMASTE’ states where ‘N’ stands for Nagaland, ‘A’ for Assam, ‘M’ for Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, ‘A’ for Arunachal Pradesh, ‘S’ for Sikkim, ‘T’ for Tripura and ‘E’ for eastern states. He called upon the students to build Samruddh, Swacch, Nirog Bharat with participative democracy. He also highlighted about central government schemes which are more people oriented and developmental motives.

On the occasion, Acharya also said no job is considered superior or inferior as every job is dutifully done with honesty. While pointing out that India represents a staggering amount of human potential, he lamented that many of them are trapped in poverty with few opportunities to learn or earn a decent living. He strongly condemned the traditional system of conventional degrees offered by universities making students more dependent.

Later after the session, Christmas cake was cut and students of Alva’s College sung Christmas carol in the backdrop of Christmas celebration. The Governor conveyed New Year greetings.

North Eastern students from Alva’s, Aloysius College, SDM College and many more institutions in the city participated in the interaction session. Other dignitaries who were present included vice chancellor of Nitte University Ramananda Shetty; Director SDM College of Management Dr Devraj; spouse of PB Acharya Kavitha Acharya, NEPAM vice president John Lalmuanawma; advisors Mrs. Christy and PR Chiheuding Khate, and Alva’s Education Foundation Managing Trustee Vivek Alva.
