Governor PB Acharya has appealed to all the people of Nagaland to bring transformative changes in the villages. The governor in his message on the occasion of National Panchayati Day 2016, said that progress depends on the development of villages and that panchayats should have infrastructure development in every field. He said, special attention be given in some areas such as education of children in the village and vaccination for children etc. He said the elected representatives should ensure proper administration at the grass-roots level.
According to press note by PRO Raj Bhavan Kohima, the govenor mentioned about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to panchayat members to work with five-year vision with concrete development plans to bring about positive changes in their villages.
He said that Article 371A in the Constitution gives the right to follow customary laws and practices but in this 21st century women empowered with education and other skills are ready to take up the responsibility in every field. Citing that the the Constitution of India provides 1/3rd reservation for women in all local bodies, the governor appealed to all the tribal intellectuals, tribal Hohos and political leaders to give a serious thought whether we should take up 1/3rd reservation for women in all panchayat and local body elections as per the constitution. The governor also appealed to all the people of the state to positively work hard for a secure peaceful and prosperous Nagaland.
