Gorkhas in Chumoukedima observes ‘Bhanu Jayanti’

Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): Gorkha Union Chumoukedima has celebrated the 204th Bhanu Jayanti anniversary at Chumukedima town hall on July 13.

Bhanu Bhatak Acharya, popularly known as ‘Adikabi,’ is remembered for his contributions to Nepali literature. He has many literary works to his credit including translation of the epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali and was the first poet to united all through Nepali language, the press release received here on Saturday informed.

Presided over by BB Sewa, president of Chumukedima Gorkha Union, the commemoration event was graced by the chairman of state co-operative marketing and consumers’ federation (Marcofed), Dr. M Chuba Ao as the speaker.

Many eminent personalities from Chumoukedima town including EAC Thejavizo Nakhro, Chairman Chumoukedima Village Council Razavituo, head GB of Chumukedima town, representatives from and different organisations and schools students attended the programme.

The celebration was marked with recitations of poetry, cultural songs and dances, band display by various Gorkha artistes of Chumukedima.  ‘The Chronicles,’ the only Gorkha band in Dimapur was the guest band.

More than 400 Gorkha community members from different place attended the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M Chuba Ao, lauded the Gorkha community for their initiative to celebrate Bhanu Jayanti in Chumukedima every year. He stated that Bhanu Bhakta Acharya had greatly contributed to language and society. He has exhorted the gathering to conserve culture and heritage.

BB Sewa has thanked all the members for making the celebration a grand success. He congratulated to all the awardees and requested all the students and the youth to “be the pilot of their own lives” and steer themselves to success in life.

HSLC, HSSLC and Graduation level students were felicitated with meritorious awarded for their outstanding performances. The programme concluded with the prize distribution for various competitions and band performances by ‘The Chronicles’ band.
