Dimapur, March 17 (EMN): The 9th Nagaland Armed Police (Indian Reserve), also referred to as ‘The Daring Ninth’, the first IR battalion of the state, have released a documentary celebrating the life and sacrifice of the unit’s soldiers during the onslaught against Naxalites in Chhattisgarh during 2005-2007.

The documentary ‘The Fallen Heroes’ has been released as a tribute to the brave and daring Naga soldiers of 9th NAP (IR) who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

The documentary was released by DIG (Training & Border) Martin Pienyü here on Friday at his office chamber at the Police complex in Chumukedima. 9th NAP Commandant CJ Kinghen and other officials were also at the event.

The documentary was produced by unit Commandant CJ Kinghen on behalf of Nagaland Police for the National Police Memorial, Chanakya Puri, at New Delhi.

On July 4, 2005, the 9th NAP (IR) was deployed to Chhattisgarh to combat Naxalites and Maoists in the Bastar region. During their stint in Chhattisgarh, the soldiers of the unit exhibited exemplary courage; they have been commended for expertise in jungle warfare during operations against Naxalitess in Dantewada district, Barsoor, Injaram, Beji, Bhoiramgarh, Bijapur, Kanker, Beji to Gorkha, Bodoli, Bhiji, and Bhairamgarh Chhattisgarh, among others. The unit lost 20 of its members during the tour of duty.

A memorial for the fallen heroes was set at the unit’s headquarter at Saijang in Peren district. Visiting dignitaries pay homage at the memorial.

As the “The Daring Ninth” implies, the heroes sacrificed their lives for a just cause, protecting the lives of the people. The documentary will be reliving a story in the history of the Nagas.
