Glocal Hornbill international film festival launched

With an aim to promote film makers in Nagaland and bring the global and the local in one platform, Glocal Hornbill international film festival organized by department of Information & Public Relations and Eastern Art Council got underway at the Heritage Bungalow, Kohima on Tuesday evening.
To promote the love of films, short films from North America and Nagaland were being screened in the two day event that commenced on Tuesday evening.
Temjen Toy, additional chief secretary and finance commissioner inaugurated the film festival and in his short speech, he said films are the most powerful mediums where a story can be told and where emotions can be expressed.
He said in Nagaland, film making is at the nascent stage but encouraging the young talents, Toy said Naga narrative have to be taken out to tell the story to the rest of the world and maintained that Nagas have the potentiality and resource.
We have financial constraint but say we need to overcome it stating that start with whatever you have and along the way, you will reap the hard work citing the example of building a house.
He hoped that film festival will provide a platform where they can learn but also know more about the process of film making through the interactions.
Director, IPR, Limawati Ao in his address said Nagas are lacking behind the facilities but emphasized that Nagas don’t lack the talent, he said if they were given the opportunity, they have the potentiality. He further encouraged the young movie makers to promote Nagaland to the rest of the world.
Dr. Brian W. Bailey also presented a brief highlight of the films to be screened. The short films screened on the first day included Election Day 2016, The Snack List, Chapman, The Kitchen, Story of a house, Rone and A passage through time.
Altogether, 14 short films and documentary will be screened in the two day event of Hornbill international film festival.
