Gang-fighters banished after death of youth

Community authorities in Kohima town have expelled four youths from Kohima who are said to have been a part of nine youths that engaged in a fight with another group that lead to the death of a young man on September 23 in the capital town.
A resolution of community leaders said that the youths have been expelled indefinitely from PWD colony and “they shall not be allowed to come back and reside in the colony even after they are released after serving their term of sentences.”
The members of the families of the accused have been exempted from the expulsion but with the condition that “at any point of time, if the family members of the accused provided shelter to any one of the accused within the jurisdiction of PWD colony, the whole family members shall be expelled from the colony immediately.”
Leaders of the PWD Colony Panchayat and those from sector councils and youth organizations met in an emergency meeting on September 26 in Kohima. The organizations met to discuss “the incident” that occurred on the night of September 23 during which a youth from New Market colony succumbed to injury after a fight with another group. The incident is said to have occurred at Box Cutting, a spot named so along a national highway near Kohima town.
The Panchayat and the area’s youth organization issued a press release on Thursday, October 8, informing about the decision.
Out of the nine accused, four accused are found to be resident of PWD colony, the community leaders said. The emergency meeting deliberated on the issue and resolved the following (verbatim):
“The house condemned the heinous crime committed and as all the nine accused are in the custody of the police.
The house agreed to let the law takes its own course of action and urge the judiciary to award stringent punishment to the accused.”
“The house also resolved that the 4 (four) accused who are resident of P.W.D. colony namely, 1. Vidusato Rhutsu(l8years) S/o Neidituo Rhutsu, Mima Village, P.O/PS Khuzama,Present Add. Upper P.W.D. colony Kohima. 2. David Kape (19 years ) s/o Lt. Loli Kape, Vill. Chowainu PO/Ps Mao Manipur, present Add. Upper P.W.D. colony Kohima. 3. Khuveto (18 years ) s/o Lt. Zekevi Vill. Suthotsu, PO/PS. Phek , Present Add. Upper P.W.D. Colony Kohima and 4. Vilabeizo Theunuo (20 years ) s/o/ Ba-o Theunuo, Vill. Chiechama, PO/PS. Chiephobozou, Present Add. Lower P.W.D. Colony Kohima, are henceforth expelled indefinitely from P.W.D. Colony and they shall not be allowed to come back and reside in the colony even after they are released after serving their term of sentences.”
Also, “considering that the murder committed by the accused was without the knowledge of the Family members,” the community leaderships “exempted the family members of the accused from expulsion with the condition that at any point of time, if the family members of the accused provided shelter to any one of the accused within the jurisdiction of PWD colony, the whole family members shall be expelled from the colony immediately.”
