Kohima, March 15 (EMN): At least seven children out of the total 25 patients were detected with heart defects during a free heart screening programme conducted for age group of 0-18 years at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima on March 15.
The free heart screening was an initiative of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) of National Health Mission in collaboration with Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Pvt. Ltd (SHRIPL), Imphal, Manipur.
Nodal Officer of RBSK Dr. Khriesi Sachu informed that it was the first screening programme held for this year, and that the state capital has a lesser turned-out of patients than Dimapur. He added that the children detected with heart issues will be treated in a month’s time.
Out of the seven detected patients, three of them were advised for device closure, another three for surgical closure, and one for immediate cardiac intervention, informed Premjit Lourembam, deputy manager business development, SHRIPL. The patient advised for immediate treatment had been advised to get treatment at Kolkata, Lourembam added.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, government of India, under the National Health Mission launched the RBSK in February 2013 to provide child health screening and early intervention services. It aimed at treating 30 health conditions prevalent in children, including birth defects, deficiency conditions, congenital diseases, and developmental delays.
