Diphu, Aug.17: The people of Karbi Anglong joined the nation in mourning the demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee by organising a condolence meeting, while the national flag was flown at half mast in all government offices and at BJP district office. All schools, colleges, university, government offices remained closed.

In East Karbi Anglong District Committee, BJP office a condolence meeting was organised by the party, where CEM, Tuliram Ronghang, EMs and MACs, East Karbi Anglong District Committee, BJP, president and EM, KAAC Ratan Teron including party leaders and workers paid floral tribute.

CEM said, “We pray for the soul of Atal Bihari Vajpee for the eternal rest. The national flag in all government offices will be flown at half mast and national day of mourning till Aug. 22. At 5 p.m. prayer and condolence will be taken up, he said. From Thur. till Aug. 22 all government offices will be half.

In the evening a condolence meeting was held at the office of Karbi Anglong Chamber of Commerce (KACC) here. In the condolence meeting KAAC Chairman, Augustine Kramsa, general secretary, Muna Lal Gupta, secretary Bijon Das and other members present lighted candle at the portrait of Vajpayee. A one minute silent prayer was also observed.

Assam Chamber of Commerce instructed shops and other business establishments in Diphu town to remain close from morning 5 am to evening 5 am on the demise of Vajpayee.
