Dimapur, June 24 (EMN): A footpath at East Police Station, Dimapur, constructed under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was inaugurated on Saturday by Advisor of Urban Development, SI Jamir.
Calling for efficient implementation of various central projects in the State, Jamir appealed the citizens for cooperation as the efforts of the Department alone would not be enough for accomplishment of any project. Accentuating that specific period is provided for taking up projects, the legislator said AMRUT scheme is time bound and it seeks to transform existing towns and cities.
Secretary of Urban Development Department, Motsuthung Lotha, updated that Kohima and Dimapur districts have been included under AMRUT scheme-targeting one lakh population as criteria to be selected under the scheme amounting Rs 120 crore for the two cities.
Lotha expounded that any project under AMRUT has to be completed by 2019 as the mission was valid till that period. He, therefore, appealed the public to extend their support and cooperation with the department while acquiring land and any other logistics support.
Apprising the citizens on AMRUT, Lotha highlighted that the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) could not be taken up in the State due to land acquisition problems. He said AMRUT scheme, which is also similar to JNNURM, has to be completed with a total cost of Rs.120 crores by 2019.
He also pointed out ‘any interruption faced by the department from the public would effect in a loss for the citizens since the mission will remain valid only for three years.’ He further added that water supply and sanitation, drainage, footpath, to name a few, were some of the priorities to be taken up under AMRUT scheme. He has sought the cooperation from the people in order to take full advantage of the scheme. The footpath management comes under Urban transportation, informed the department secretary.
