Footballer Kivi Zhimomi called up for national camp
Kohima, July 16 (EMN): 22 year old Kivi Zhimomi who recently signed for North East United FC has been called up for national team camp ahead of the 2018 South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship that will be held in New Delhi from July 28 to August 16. The Indian team is also expected to leave for an exposure trip to Australia on August 17.
Former Gokulam Kerala FC player Kivi in his debut for I-League caught the attention of the national clubs after scoring scored two goals in his 11 appearances for the club (8 starts and 3 as substitute).
Dimapur born forward Kivi when contacted by Eastern Mirror was hopeful that he would be joining the national team by July 28.
While the head coach Stephen Constantine has opted for a U-23 squad for the camp leaving with all the senior players aside. The championship will take place in Bangladesh and will run from September 4 till the 15th. India is the defending champions of the tournament. In this edition, seven South Asian teams will take part in the tournament namely India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, and Sri Lanka.
India has been drawn alongside the Maldives and Sri Lanka in Group B. After the group matches, top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-final and the final on September 15.
