Imphal, July 2 (EMN): The flood situation in Manipur has worsened after some of the major rivers breached at different locations even though water level of some of the major rivers showed a receding trend till the filing of this report.
The flash flood-ravaged valley areas of Manipur continued on Sunday after heavy landslide occurred between Litan and Mahadev along Imphal-Ukhrul road affecting vehicular movement along the route.
This is the third round of flash flood the state had been experiencing this monsoon due to various reasons including lack of proper implementation of the land use policy in the state, according to observers. However there is no report of any human casualty in the state.
Many rivers and rivulets in the valley areas particularly in Imphal West, Bishnupur and Thoubal district overflowed at various location forcing hundreds of residents to vacate their houses as water entered their homes. With water overflowing from Nambul River, several localities under Sagolband, Uripok and Thangmeiband constituencies were flooded and flood waters have entered many places in Thongju, Lamlai, Mayang Imphal, Wangkhei, Yaiskul constituencies following day long heavy rains on Saturday.
Dharmasala, Thangal Bazaar and Paona Bazaar, the road leading to Uripok from BT Flyover and Cheirap Court complexes, all in the heart of Imphal town have submerged. Similar scenes were also seen at Konung Mamang, Andro Parking and Hatta road in Imphal East district.
However traffic resumed on Saturday along the Kangpokpi sector of the National Highway 2 following the clearance of the landslide at Koubri Leikha area.
