Five KPLT militants arrested in Karbi Anglong

Diphu, June 9 (EMN): Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao police arrested five cadres of the Karbi People Liberation Tigers (KPLT) during the anti-extremist operation carried out at Karbi Anglong, west Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.

Acting on a tip off, the team led by SP of  Karbi Anglong Gaurav Upadhaya and Additional SP (HQ) Indranil Baruah raided the hill district and apprehended the cadres belonging to the anti-talk faction of the outlawed militant outfit.

The apprehended militants have been identified as “self style commandant-in-chief cum finance secretary” Rongbin Ejang alias Menjing Thransa, Bister Hanse, Jiten Kro, Hatsing Phongso, and Mathew Rongpi.

During a press conference at the office of SP, Karbi Anglong, here on Monday, DIG (Central Range) Dilip Kumar De said, “In the neighbouring districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Hojai, Dima Hasao and Golaghat some group of people in the name of anti-talk faction of KPLT were carrying out extortion drive.”

An anti-extremist operation was carried out by Karbi Anglong police taking the help of Dima Hasao and West Karbi Anglong police, he said.

“Earlier under Bakulia police station, a cadre of an anti-talk faction of KPLT Ritesh Teron of Bakulia was arrested.  On May 22 a self style Dputy C-n-C of anti talk faction of KPLT Mensing Tokbi was again arrested by Manja police,” the DIG informed.

During the last three days, he said operation carried out in the three hill districts and neighbouring district of Hojai the Karbi Anglong police managed to apprehend five more leaders of the anti-talk faction of KPLT.

The DIG further informed that these KPLT leaders were involved extortion and intimidating, and rhino poaching inside Kaziranga National Park.

An amount of INR 25 lakh along with arms and ammunition, demand notes of KPLT were recovered from their possession.
