First legal literacy club at Dr. Neilhouzu Kire GHSS

Dimapur, Oct. 13 (EMN): Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) initiated the launch of the first ‘Legal Literacy Club’ in the state among the schools at Dr. Neilhouzu Kire Government Higher Secondary School Kohima on Oct. 13.
Highlighting on what the club is about Panel Lawyer of Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) Sanjib Rana said the club has been set up for the welfare of students in particular and for the society at large. He further advised the students not to give wrong advice without knowing and that one should be careful while using the internet based social networking sites.
Panel Lawyer of KDLSA Nulhuvolu Rhakho while speaking on the role of para-legal volunteers said PLVs are engage to ensure legal aid to people especially the weaker sections of the society. She also mentioned that PLVs are like a bridge between the court and common people.
Rhakho informed that PLVs are expected to assist the Panel Lawyers in Legal Aid Clinics as well as the concerned district front office. She appraised that PLVs can also visit police stations, jails, psychiatric hospitals, children homes and observation homes.
Principal of the school Bijano gave a note of gratitude to the panel lawyers for inducting legal literacy club in the school.
Panel Lawyer of NSLSA Khriesinuo Kire said Dr. Neilhouzu Kire GHSS was the first among the schools in Kohima district to have a Legal Literacy Club. The club badges were also distributed to the students to create awareness.
Meanwhile, Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) conducted an essay competition on the topic Child Rights at Government Higher Secondary School, Peren Town on Oct. 12.
