Diphu, April 15 (EMN): The first foundation day of Karbi Rong Asar Amei (KRAA) Karbi Anglong was celebrated at Joysing Doloi Auditorium on April 14 Saturday.

During the celebration a decision was passed where a Karbi headman who  have not completed the installation or ordination process as per the Karbi traditional customs within 2018-19 would not be recognised in any Karbi social gatherings.

The KRAA is a body of Karbi village headmen.

The discussion session was participated by village headmen from different parts of the district.

They discussed on the losing of Karbi traditional customs, where many village headmen in Karbi village have claimed themselves as a village headman without completing any formalities of installation of Karbi village headman.

During the occasion it was resolved that  the Poho-Karbi traditional scarf worn by Karbi men cannot be presented to women during any social functions, gatherings or celebrations. Instead women should be presented with Karbi bag, tari-small knife and pekok-cloth.

And for identification between married and unmarried Karbi men in a social gathering, a married men should wear red colour of Poho (Scarf) and for unmarried men white colour of Poho should be worn, it has resolved.

Also, the village headmen discussed on tying of tender banana tree light on vehicles going for marriage ceremony by bridegroom’s party. It has resolved that tying of banana tree on vehicles should not do so , instead the symbol of bongkrok-gouard filled with rice bear and some other symbols should be put-up during the marriage ceremony. Karbi men participating in marriage party should wear Choi hongthor (Karbi Jacket) and poho (Scarf).

The meeting also resolved that without the concern of traditional village headman, the Sarkari Goan Buras-government appointed village headman, cannot issue No Objection Certificates (NOC) for any purposes to any person.

The presidents and secretaries of Nomati and Mahamaya KRAA branches were inducted as members in the central executive committee.

During an open session, the United Karbi Students Association (UKSA) president Ratan Terang spoke on the provision of paragraph 3 and 4 of the 6th Schedule of  the constitution on strengthening and exercising of  customary laws of the tribal people. The Karbis have every right in exercising and protection of customary laws in the society. The customary laws and traditions of the Karbis are losing and it is time to strengthen it, he said.

Karbi traditional king, Ramsing asked KRAA members to extend their support to the Karbi traditional king and Lindokpos-subordinates as they have no financial source of their own. Karbi Cultural Society, president, Chandrasing Kro told KRAA that he is willing to allot land at Taralangso for office building.

KRAA president, Dhormosing Teron urged KRAA members to extend cooperation in all programmes and activities of the organisations.

The meeting was attended by lindokpos, other leaders of KRAA and leaders of various social organisations.
