Dimapur, Sep. 23 (EMN): At least 27 thatch houses were razed to ashes in an inferno that broke out at K Sachu colony, Dimapur on Saturday.

As per information from the Dimapur fire department, they received call around 12 pm on Saturday informing of the fire. It took around an hour and half to control the fire from spreading to other areas and four fire tenders were put into action.  Also, Assam Rifles assisted the Dimapur fire department with their fire depot, informed the fire department personnel. Four domestic gas cylinders exploded in the inferno.

Though the exact cause of the inferno could not be ascertained, as per the account of the tenants, the police personnel reported the inferno occurred due to short circuit. However the police said that there was no electricity at the time of the incident as per the Gaon Bura of the colony, and the inferno could have occurred ‘due to negligence’.

The houses belong to three Nagas and the occupants were non-Naga tenants. No casualty was reported in the inferno.  The officials of fire department said that the Dimapur traffic jam posed hindrance in reaching the spot on time.
