Dimapur, March 23 (EMN): At least 34 families were rendered homeless following a major fire that occurred at Khermahal in Dimapur on Thursday, March 23, officials from the Dimapur fire department said.
The sources said that around 35 houses–thatched and semi-thatched houses–including a service centre shop dealing in electronic items, and two-wheeler spare-parts shop, were gutted in the inferno that broke out at around 12.50 pm as per the call received by the Fire department. Three timber yards were also partially burned in the inferno.
According to the department’s fire personnel, the cause of the fire was ascertained to be ‘short circuit.’ Though no casualty was reported, property worth around Rs. 90 lakh was said to have been lost in the inferno.
Five fire tenders from the Dimapur Fire Brigade and two from Chumukedima Fire Brigade were pressed into service to control the blaze, which continued till 3.15 pm, said the fire personnel.
