Fire gutted seven houses in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, Sep. 16 (EMN): Seven houses were reduced to cinder in a devastating fire which broke out at Sangtemla Ward in Mokokchung, above Supong Hall (commonly known as Eastern Hall) on September 16 evening.

Officer in-charge of Mokokchung Fire Service department, Thungathung T Shitiri, told this reporter that it took about two hours to douse the fire. The fire reported started at around 7:20 pm. He said two fire engines were pressed into service following reports about the incident.

Eyewitness said the fire started from a Police Quarter caused by LPG cylinder explosion which engulfed to nearby houses. Shitiri reported that property worth approximately more than INR 60 lakhs were destroyed in the incident. Further investigating was on to find the cause of the incident, he said.

In another separate incident, a room of the BJP Mokokchung Unit office caretaker cum kitchen was partially destroyed by fire at around 5:26 pm. The prompt action of the fire service averted the fire from spreading to surrounding area. The incident was reported to be caused by short circuit, police informed.
