Financial literacy lessons in Aokum village

Dimapur, Feb. 23 : To promote the cause of financial literacy or financial inclusion, Digital Financial Literacy Awareness Program supported by the NABARD was conducted at Aokum village on February 22. The program was organized by the Care and Support Society of Mokokchung in collaboration with the State Bank of India, Tzurangkong branch, of Mokokchung, organisers informed in a press release on Thursday.
During the programme, S Amarjit Mangang of the NABARD informed villagers about digital transaction and the importance of a cashless economy. “He highlighted the objectives of demonetization and informed the villagers to go for cashless transactions to save time and money,” updates from the event stated.The official also advised the villagers to open accounts and apply for Rupay cards from the banks. Likewise, he asked them to connect their mobile numbers to their bank accounts for ‘cashless transactions.’
Besides, S Amarjit Mangang spoke about internet banking and other digital wallets including the facility *99#, initiatives of NABARD such as the Farmers’ Club and other government-sponsored schemes through the NABARD.
Moasunup Imchen of the State Bank of India, Tzurangkong branch, spoke about the importance of banking, savings, financial planning. He spoke about various other financial services offered by the banks to the public, the press release stated.
Further, Imchen told the gathering about the current demonetization process in the country. “Cautioning the public about unscrupulous people, he further advised the people not to entertain people who try to evade tax by trying to park their cash in the accounts, which is equal to abetting the tax evaders and is punishable by law,” the press release added.
