Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): The National Family Health Survey for Nagaland has started. A press release issued by the health programme’s establishment on Wednesday stated that the survey will be covering the 11 districts of the state.
The survey, its fifth round, is being undertaken with the main objective to strengthen India’s ‘demographic and health database by providing information that is reliable and relied upon’ to meet the country’s data on emerging health and family welfare issues.

The project state coordinator issued a press release to the media on Wednesday offering updates about the survey.
During the inauguration of the survey earlier, Dimapur’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Vikato Kinimi, addressed 120 trainees, the updates stated. Lauding them for the services they will be providing for the community through the survey, he said their work is a ‘noble job’ as it involves ‘working with the people.’

The medical officer gave brief highlights about how the establishment of the chief medical officer functions; the different programs that are run by the department cover malaria, maternal health, immunization, tuberculosis, and leprosy etc.

Kinimi observed that ‘many people are not availing the services provided by the government because they feel that the government health services or medicines are not effective but that the private health institutions are much better.’

The medical official said such an ‘attitude or mindset of the people’ has brought about this understanding.
An interactive session was part of the event. Many issues concerning health and the sector were discussed during it, the updates stated.

The districts’ medical authorities extended help to the survey by providing guest lecturers during the training, which was held from June 3 and till the 4th of July at the Aida in Dimapur.

Pastor Thunglanbemo Ezung of the Senjum Lotha Baptist Church read a word of God and said a prayer for a successful survey, the updates stated.

Dr. Ali and Project Officer Zaben Enny from the International Institution of Population Sciences (IIPS) at Mumbai, highlighted the importance of the National Family Health Survey, the updates stated.

During the introduction session Alice Kamei, state project officer, said that the training was for 28 days covering all the aspects of women and child’s health which is the core of the survey.

“She asserted a healthy mother and a healthy child can lead to healthy state that will give development. The survey has its own importance both at national and state level,” the updates stated.

The project officials are requesting all the district authorities and members of the public to extend all possible help and cooperation with the survey teams.
