Mokokchung, August 24 (EMN): Vincent and United Brothers were unanimously declared as the winners of the first Federation Cup Super-8 2017 Day and Night tournament organised by the Mokokchung District T20 Cricket Federation after the weather played spoilsport at the final match at Imkongmeren Sports Complex on Wednesday evening in Mokokchung.
Just after the first inning wherein Vincent elected to bat first and scored a total of 57/4 thick fog slowly began to surround the entire field with mild shower in the middle of the second inning. The light towers surrounding the field could not penetrate the fog giving zero visibility for the players and officials to officiate the match. Thus, the officials had to call off the match after Mother Nature played spoilsports in the 5.3 overs when United Brother was on 33/1.
The spectators who gathered in large numbers to support their teams were disheartened as poor weather shattered the moods of the supporters.
Nevertheless, in the first inning out of 57/4 scored by Vincent, Nagaho managed to contribute 19 runs from 14 balls and Wapang 15 runs from 13 balls for their team. Merenkaba, Neehal and Chubamong took one wicket each for United Brothers. United Brother was on 33/1 in 5.3 overs when the match was brought to a halt. The single wicket of United Brothers was taken by Nagaho in 1.2 overs.
With the clock ticking the organisers desperately waited until late hours to settle down the fog but when all hope was lost they came to a unanimous decision to declare both the finalist teams as winners of the tourney.
Individual winners:
Man of the Series: Merenkaba (United Brothers)
Best Batsman: Tejasol (Vincent: scored a total of 118 runs)
Best Bowler: Moatemsu (Titans: 12 Wickets)
