Farmers take a trip to Karbi Anglong

Duck farmers from six villages in Phek district visited various farming establishments during a trip to Karbi Anglong in Assam.

Dimapur, June 16 (EMN): “Practicing and prospective duck farmers” from six villages in Phek district participated in a trip sponsored by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), to Karbi Anglong in Assam.
A press release from the organisers on Sunday stated that the farmers visited various animal husbandry and farming establishments in Assam.

Altogether 20 farmers participated in the tour which was conducted from June 12 to the 15th, the updates states.
The farmers visited “duck breeding and demonstration farm” of the government of Assam at Phuloni in Karbi Anglong.

Farm manager Lonee Dutta was stated to have explained to the visitors about the routine management practices at duck farms.

“The farmers witnessed different breeds of duck and scientific method of housing, breeding, feeding and health care for optimum production and profit. The farmers were also distributed preventive medicines and mineral mixtures during the programme,” the press release stated.

An award winning progressive farmer Subhan Ch Gayari spoke from his rich experiences, the updates stated. He was stated to have appealed to the farmers to aspire to create ‘market oriented farming.’

The farmers then visited the farm of another progressive farmer, Dhansingh Basumatary.
They learned about integrated farming systems with the duck as a component, the updates stated.

Further, the visitors availed the opportunity to visit integrated farming models, livestock farms and horticulture units of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research at Nagaland Centre, the press release stated.
