Farmer-scientist interaction held in Changtongya

Dimapur, May 17 (EMN): As part of the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) activities, Agriculture Technology and Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung block, in convergence with NSRLM has organised one-day farmer-scientist interaction programme in Changtongya village under Mokokchung district on May 16 with the participation of more than fifty SHG members.
The resource persons were Dr. Renbemo from KVK Yisemyong, Samuel (SMS, Yisemyong), and Dr. Aoyimsen from the veterinary department.
In a press release, Takalemba Jamir, DFS (NSLRM), RD Changtongya block, stated that the participating farmers were educated on livestock management such as piggery, crop management and value addition of fruit produce.
The interaction programme was the first of its kind initiated in Changtongya village. With the training, the ATMA and NSLRM aim to educate the farmers to cultivate their farms in a more productive manner.
Changtongya village area, which is one of the most fertile areas under Mokokchung district, has huge potentials for cultivation of cash crops like bananas and pineapples; the area also holds huge potentials for pig and other livestock farms, the release added.
Meanwhile, the participating farmers have expressed gratitude to the ATMA and NSLRM for conducting the programme and hope that the knowledge gained through the programme would go a long way in modernising the mode of cultivation.
