Extortion, kidnapping, robbery rule Dimapur

Kidnapping, vehicle-lifting, and extortion continue to be the main criminal activities that are taking over Dimapur, the neglected commercial city of Nagaland. Authorities informed on Tuesday about a number of cases relating to said crimes committed during the week during separate occasions.
In the first case, personnel of the Women Cell of the Dimapur police have rescued a child who the authorities said on Tuesday, had gone missing for nearly one year. The Dimapur police issued a press release on Tuesday informing about the find.
According to the authorities, the child was kidnapped and sold for a sum of Rs. 2,000.
“The child went missing from the Dimapur Railway Platform on August 2014 when she was only three months old. The case was under investigation and lookout for the child was on,” the authorities said.
“After considerable investigation and also based on information from sources, a team of Dimapur Police went and rescued the child from Hojai, Assam on 20/10/2015,” the press release stated.
Two persons have been arrested in connection to the case. The two have been identified as one Noor Islam, a 35-year-old man from Hojai in Assam, and Amina Khatoon, a 52-year-old woman, also from Hojai.
“The child was kidnapped by Noor Islam and sold it off to Amina Khatoon for a sum of Rs. 2,000/- (two thousand),” the press release read.
Missing Jalukie girls found
In another case, police authorizes in Dimapur have located three girls, hailing from Jalukie in Peren district, said to have gone missing.
On October 22, the press release from the police said, personnel of the Women Cell of Dimapur Police rescued two girls who were reported missing earlier. Yet again, another girl reported missing was located on October 25, the police said.
“All of them have been handed over to their parents/guardians,” the press release said.
UGs and extortion: Extortionists, kidnappers caught
Extortion, a virtual business in Dimapur, continues to blight the lives of citizens as well as businessmen and service providers in the lawless city.
Police have said that activists of the GPRN/NSCN and FGN (N/A) have been arrested in connection with cases of extortion and abduction for ransom.
Police said that on October 22, one person identified as Inavi Kinimi, a resident of Kuhoboto has been arrested by Dimapur police authorities. Kinimi has been arrested on charges of extortion after being apprehended while collecting “taxes” from commercial trucks near Kushiabill area in Dimapur, the enforcement said.
“Illegally collected cash and other incriminating documents were seized from his possession. The arrested person identified as a ‘Rajapeyu’ of the GPRN/NSCN,” the police said of the accused.
Likewise, the police have caught four persons, including two members of the underground group FGN (NA) on charges of kidnapping a truck driver for ransom.
“On 23/10/2015, report was received that certain miscreants abducted a truck driver from Padum Pukhuri area and were demanding a ransom of Rs. 10,000/- to the truck owner for safe release. Accordingly, Dimapur Police under Zone-I were press him to action and the abducted driver was rescued from Super Market area, Dimapur,” the police said.
The police arrested five miscreants involved in the crime and seized an autorickshaw allegedly used in committing the crime, the police said.
The police stated: “The arrested persons were identified as (1) SS. Sgt. Maj. of FGN(NA) Akahino Awomi S/o Atoti Awomi, V/o. Sastami, PS-VK Town under Zunheboto, (2) SS. 2nd Lieut. of FGN (NA) Semato alias John Yepthomi S/o. P. Yepthomi, V/o- Homeland, Dimapur, (3) Hito Zhimomi S/o. Vinito Zhimomi of VK Town, Dist- Zunheboto, (4) Nighato Chophy S/o. Khehovi, V/o-Atoizu, PS- Atoizu, Dist-Zunheboto, (5) Aboto Kiba (30 Yrs), S/o. Ghotovi Kiba PO/PS- VK Town, Dist – Zunheboto.”
Stolen motorbikes found
Also, in another case, police have located three motorbikes said to have been stolen from Dimapur. In “continuation” of the recovery nine stolen motorcycles as reported on October 21, Dimapur police have recovered three more motorcycles. The vehicles and their details as stated by the police in the press release are:

Kohima police takes in 400+ kgs of cannabis
In Kohima, enforcement authorities continue to confiscate cannabis. Police authorities of the capital district have informed that more than 400 kilograms of the contraband have been confiscated from a truck. Two people have been arrested in this connection.
On October 25, Kohima police manning Peducha beat checking vehicles on the road stopped a truck. The vehicle bore the registration number AS-01DC-4036. The enforcement personnel found 401 kilograms of ganja, a press release from the police said.
“The contraband was neatly packed in 46 packets – 3 packets weighing 5kgs each, 22 packets weighing 8 kgs each and 21 packets weighing 10 kgs each and was found concealed inside a secret compartment of the truck body,” the police said.
Two persons have been arrested in this connection. The authorities have identified them as one Soibam Naoba Meitei, a 32-year-old man from Nambol Awang Jiri village under Imphal district in Manipur, and a Hemanta Singh, from Gochara Bosti in Hojai under Nagaon district in Assam.
“In this connection, a regular case vide Sechü (Zubza) PS Case No 0037/2015 U/S 20 (b) (c) NDPS Act is registered against them for conducting further investigation,” the police said.
