Dimapur, Nov. 29: A joint destruction programme of seized drugs and liquor by Excise Narcotics and District Excise, Dimapur, was held on November 29 at the Excise Directorate, Dimapur. The total street value of seized drugs and liquor destroyed was estimated to be Rs. 1.76 crore. The seizures were made from November 2016 to October 2017.

A report from the Superintendent of Excise (Narcotic Cell) Phyobemo Lotha maintained that 50 gms of heroin, 429 gms of brown sugar, 700 gms of opium, 501 kgs of ganja, 3200 tablets of amphetamine (yaba), 40,913 capsules of spasmo proxyvon and 881 bottles of cough syrup were destroyed.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Excise (Narcotic Cell) Kevisetuo Angami, in his address, reminded the department that they were entrusted with the responsibility to defend the society, He advised the officials to take into account of the confidence reposed upon them and not gamble with the menace that is affecting the society.

The Superintendent of Excise Dimapur destroyed 16, 278 bottles of IMFL- of which 4, 831 bottles of IMFL were seized by the DC (NC) – estimated to be Rs. 34 lac in street value.

Giving details, a statement from the Superintendent of Excise Dimapur T Arilong Longkumer maintained that during the seizure period from November 2016 till date, a total of 570 cases were registered. It added that the department could impound Rs. 14.13 lakh fine through the seizure during the period.
