Entertainment extravaganza marks Tsüngremmong festival in Mkg

As part of Tsungremmong festival – the premier festival of Ao Naga community – a grand extravaganza was organized at Cosmos Entertainment Hall & Restaurant on August 1 evening on the theme ‘Uplifting young talents’ which showcased young upcoming models, designers, singers and dancers.
The organizer of the extravaganza, Temsu Kichu, stated that there were lot of young talents in the society who needed a platform to showcase their talents for which the Tsungremmong festival extravaganza was organized for promoting the young talents of the society. The night witnessed hundreds of young people from all walks of life including tourists partaking in the grand Tsüngremmong extravaganza. Young upcoming models had showcased design wears by local designers Merenla Mongka, who designed the formal wear, and the ‘modern ethnic wear’ designed by Yinbeni Kikon and Asen.
The whole extravaganza was choreographed by Adang Jamir, who is a well known event organizer and choreographer in Nagaland.
The night was also lighted up with powerful rendition by former Naga Idol contestants like Purkumkuz and Liyang. The Hybrid Movement – a dance crew from Mokokchung – shook up the night with their moves and shakes.
The organizer Temsu Kichu, meanwhile, has acknowledged the district administration, the police, the participants, well wishers and all the partakers of the grand Tsungremmong extravaganza III for making it a success.
Meanwhile, Tsungremmong, one of the premier festivals of the Ao community, was celebrated on August 1 in different parts of Mokokchung district. In olden days the festival spread for 5 days beginning from the first week of August. It is celebrated after the arduous period of various activities in jhumming seeking the supreme one for abundant harvest.
The celebration of Tsungremmong festival was marked by pageantry of songs and dances by young and old and community feast. This year, Tsungremmong was celebrated at Sungratsu village, Longsa village, Khensa village and Town Hall Mokokchung which was organized by Ongpangkong Students Conference (OKM).
In a related programme, Tsungremmong festival was celebrated in Tuensang organized by Ao Senso Telongjem Tuensang Town (ASTTT) and sponsored by Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, Alem Jongshi at GHSS auditorium on August 1.
The chief guest of the celebration was the former State Chief Secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir, who was accompanied by his lady wife. Commandant of 23 AR, Chang Tribal Hoho (CKS), YUTT, SUTT, KUTT ENWO Tuensang Unit, ENPO Mokokchung Unit, ENSF Mokokchung unit, many officials and dignitaries attended the celebration.
Short speeches were delivered by presidents of CKS, YUTT and the lady wife of the sponsor.
Vice president Ao Senden, O Shilu Jamir, enlightened the gathering with the significance of the festival, while KUTT, SUTT Watsu Unit 3rd NAP Tuensang presented the cultural dances and song in the programme.
Addressing the occasion, the chief guest had highlighted on the significance of the festival and also stressed on the need for peace in the Naga society. He also shared the similarities of the Ao dialect, customs and tradition with that of the eastern Nagaland tribes. He also said seemingly Ao’s and the Eastern Nagas shared the migratory route.
He also shared the feeling of eastern and western Nagaland which is purely based on the history of the Nagaland which he referred the consequences of the British administration.
‘Nagas as a tribe should unite together since as Nagas we are small as compared to that of the others. The stratification within the Nagas is widening in terms of rich and poor which needs to checked before it becomes a graved cause for the disputes and problems,’ the chief guest said.
