Dimapur, June 19 (EMN): The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has “temporarily” called off its proposed agitation after the Nagaland government reportedly gave a written assurance on Wednesday to look into its demands. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting with the ENSF’s federating units, the student body informed in a statement.

The federation has directed its federating units to temporarily suspend the proposed agitation till further notice.

The move came a day after the ENSF announced that it would begin an indefinite agitation in the four districts of the region, on June 20 to protest the government’s indifferent attitude towards its demands.

“The state government in a written assurance to the federation stated to take up the relaxation policy with the Government of India (GOI) especially making a special mention of eastern Nagaland. Meanwhile, the state government has also stated that the relaxation policy will continue to remain operational till such time the reply from the GOI is received,” read the statement.

“Therefore, the federation also reminds the concerned department that the existing notification shall be implemented in letter and in spirit,” it added.

The student group has also reminded the government of its other two demands: to ensure that the under-construction DIET institutions at Longleng and Kiphire start functioning in the next academic session, and to set up B.Ed colleges in all the four districts of eastern Nagaland within this financial year.
