Kohima, Oct. 23 (EMN): Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has called off its agitation following assurance given by the principal secretary of School Education Department, FP Solo, this evening, to furnish in public the remaining 17 posts.
Informing over the phone, ENSF secretary Chang said the principal secretary gave the assurance to the federation during their meeting held this evening at the latter’s office chamber.
Earlier in the morning, ENSF members staged a peaceful sit-in-protest at the office of the Directorate of School Education on October 23 demanding the state government to implement in letter and spirit the government’s notification, dated January 9, 2009, concerning the education department.
It may be recalled that the government, in its 2009 notification, had given the assurance to the federation that the posts meant for the six tribes of ENPO area would be given to them at all cost.
Talking to Eastern Mirror at the premises of the Directorate of School of Education today, ENSF president, Sepili L Sangtam, said the federation has come up with their agitation following the government’s failure to deliver its notification dated January 9, 2009.
While informing about the advertisement issued by the department of School Education on October 21 in the local dailies, Sangtam said only 36 posts including 23 posts for mathematics and 13 posts for science had been advertised for the six tribes of ENPO area. Whereas, he said, the total of vacancies for the six tribes should be 53 posts.
The ENSF officials informed that the government had failed to furnish the post of 17 vacancies in the advertisement published on October 21.
“Our demand is in line with the notification dated January 9, 2009. In staging the sit-in-protest, we are demanding from the department/government to publish it in advertisement the remaining 17 posts which have been left out in the earlier advertisement,” the ENSF president said adding that their demand is “nothing more than the notification and nothing less than the notification.”
ENSF general secretary, Imtichoba Chang, while telling the government to uphold the notification, warned that the federation would not remain a silent spectator if the government fails to look into their demand.
The ENSF officials also informed that the federation had met the chief minister, TR Zeliang, on October 4 last and also the minister for School Education, Tokheho Yepthomi, couple of months back and apprised them about the notification dated January 9, 2009.
