Dimapur, Nov. 10 (EMN): The phase-wise agitation of Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) on day-one passed off peaceful without any report of untoward incident on November 10. ENCSU students across Nagaland have actively participated in the agitation by wearing black badges to send strong resentment to the State government and the Higher Education Department.

The first phase agitation was launched today following expiry of the stipulated seven-day ultimatum served on the State government to disburse the scholarship.

ENCSU through media cell has reaffirmed to stand firm and fight against injustice policy of the government and the department concerned until its due share is credited to their respective account. ENCSU has once again called upon all the Naga students to extend fullest cooperation to the union.

ENCSU also asked the government and the Higher Education Department to speak out the truth instead of issuing unjustified clarifications. The Union has demanded to know from the department as to why the latter could not produce the copy of directives from the Ministry particularly on disbursement of scholarship on instalment basis.

ENCSU statement claimed that the ministry had rejected the proposal of the Department due to non furnishing of Utilisation Certificate for Rs 13 crore which was released by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (Education Section) on December 28, 2016. It, therefore, stated that there is no logic behind the Department blaming the Ministry for delaying in disbursement of scholarship. It opined that had the department furnished the Utilization Certificate of Rs 13 crore there will not be hue and cry from the students community today. It has squarely blamed the State government and the concerned department for the mess.

Wearing black badge to continue

Considering the adamant attitude of the State government and the Higher Education Department, ENCSU has decided t o continue wearing black badge even tomorrow and appealed to all the college representatives to implement strictly. It warned to initiate extreme action if the government and department fail to respond even tomorrow. The Union further appealed to all the college authority and the students to extend support and solidarity during the period of protest.
