Emtili Aier awarded with Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Usou Memorial Award

Paying fitting tribute to a self-made man, who loved music and also led an exemplary life, the Rev. Dr. Neiliezh­ü Usou Memorial Award for Music Topper was today awarded to Emtili Aier of Northfield School at a solemn event held at Minister’s Hill Baptist Church, Kohima. She scored 99 marks, making her the highest scorer in music in the HSLC examination 2016 conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education.
The recipient of the Music Award received a cash award of Rs. 15,000 and a citation sponsored by the Rev. Dr. Neiliezh­ü Usou Memorial Society. Mention may be made here that she is the 12th awardee.
Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Usou Memorial Award for Music Topper was instituted in the year 2009 as a tribute to his life, symbolizing the testimony of a man of various passions. The music award is consecrated in recognition of his enduring vision and contribution to the field of music.Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary for Higher and Technical Education, Deo Nukhu recalled his short association with Rev. Dr. Neiliezhu in the 1970s while referring to him as an uncle and an elder brother to him. Stating that he was a guide and a spiritual mentor to him, he said that the man was an enthusiastic preacher and an orator and that he was also well known as the best and the fastest interpreter from English to Tenyidie.
Impressing upon that he was and is an inspiration; he stated happiness that all his children are able to fulfil his dreams. He went on to state that music is a universal language, which everyone can share and further added that many Nagas are gifted in Music while expressing that it is a very powerful tool that can influence the lives of the people. Meanwhile, congratulating the music topper, he stated hope that musicians will continue to use music to communicate hope, peace and love to the society.
Highlights of the event included welcome speech by Medokhrienuo Nakhro, bible reading and prayer by Rev. Dr. Rachülie Vihienuo, Pastor UBC, “I Come to the Garden Alone” by the granddaughters of Rev. Dr. Neiliezhu Usou, “His eye is on the sparrow” by Neikhrieo Usou, accompanied by Ame­ü Usou and the Choir, and Usou’s Instrumental.
