Kohima, Nov. 13 (EMN): Elminhao Kilong scored a hat-trick as Barak FC thrashed Turaco FC 5-0 during the first quarterfinal match of the ongoing Classic Cup at the Kohima local ground on Monday.
Sloppy defense from Turaco side helped Barak FC register an easy win and entered the semifinals of the tournament.
In the match, Barak started brightly but wasted numerous opportunities to find the back of the net. Mayongshing Khongniwa’s long-range kick hit the woodwork in the 6th minute and minute’s later Turaco defender Mamtiba free kick was denied by the woodwork in the 8th minute.
Rhitso Mero should have given the lead for Barak when he came one on one with the keeper but fired the ball wide.
However, a brilliant effort from Elminhao helped Barak to open the account in the 32nd minute. He set up Rhitso Mero to tap-in the second goal in the 37th minute.
Elminhao added his second goal in the 40th minute as Mayongshing latches a low cross into his path to fire home the third goal for Barak FC.
In the second half, substitute We Hitovi scored the fourth goal in 60th minute and Elminhao went on to complete his hat-trick in the 63rd minute for Barak FC. The team defended the scoreline and hold on for a win at the end of the final whistle.
Turaco side should blame themselves for not scoring any goal as they got numerous chances to break the deadlock throughout the match. Lungshiipa of Turaco wasted a golden opportunity when he came one with the keeper but shot the ball wide and woodwork denied him a goal in the 52nd minute as they suffered a humiliating defeat to end their saga in the tournament.
With the win, Barak FC will now face either Tyrants FC or Kohima Eagles SC in the semis on Nov. 17.
