Dimapur, Feb. 19 (EMN): The director general of Nagaland police (DGP) has disclosed that the Nagaland Armed Police establishment will have a special police task force whose personnel will be armed with advanced weaponry and equipment. The task force is envisaged to be ready within two months.
The DIPR offered updates about the visit of DGP T John Longkumer to Longleng district during which he addressed police officers there. The DGP addressed the inauguration of Yonglok Police Station on February 18.

To keep the “reputation” of the Nagaland Armed Police force “alive,” Longkumer informed that a special task force equipped with advanced weapons and equipment will be commissioned within two months.
The police officer claimed that ‘our NAP forces’ are a professional force and “their reputation and excellent service are still appreciated and acknowledge by others.”

In other matters, the DGP expressed belief that the primary duty of the police being to maintain law and order and to provide peace and security to the people, theirs is a ‘blessed duty.’

Longkumer appealed to the police force to “realize” that serving in the police department should be considered a “blessed duty,” and serve with ‘joy and enthusiasm’ to deliver justice to citizens. He was quoted as having stated that the strength of the police force was in the people.

Citizens also are appealed to come forward and cooperate with the police to maintain peace in the area. The police officer also lamented that Nagaland lacks secure and proper road connection within the border areas; entry to these areas is best possible only via Assam.

To look into the affairs of the border areas the officer informed that the subdivision police officer will be deputed there ‘shortly and the strength of the police force of Longleng would be upgraded to police superintendent level to strengthen the police force.’

The DGP pointed out that security and development should go hand in hand. Good roads are essential not only for development alone but also equally vital for security purposes, he said. He urged the district administration to plan proper and good roads in the border areas.

Also, the DGP lauded Yonglok village’s council ‘for taking care of the buildings without any damage since 2008 and assisting the police in various ways.’
The deputy commissioner of Longleng, John Tsulise Sangtam also addressed the event. In his short speech, the officer congratulated the district executive force of Longleng “for inauguration of police station in the border area,” the DIPR stated.

The administrator also appealed to the public to cooperate with and support the police establishment in its discharge of duties. Sangtam was optimistic that the people would ‘utilize and avail’ the police’s services ‘to maintain peaceful law and order in the area.’
