Electoral roll for Municipal and Town Council wards to be revised

Dimapur, October 20 : After the Government of Nagaland directed holding of the general election to constitute the municipal councils and town councils in the State, the State Election Commissioner has informed that a revision of the electoral roll for all the municipal and town council wards in the |State shall be taken up by way of special revision with reference to January 1, 2016 as the qualifying date.
The State Election commissioner stated that in order to constitute the municipal and town councils, it has become necessary to revise the existing electoral rolls of all the municipal and town council wards as there is likelyhood of death/transpositation of electors and minors who might have attained the qualifying age of 18 years and are now eligible for registration in the electoral rolls since the last revision.

For special revision of the electoral rolls of the existing 19 municipal/town councils, the State Election Commission, in exercise of provision of Section 34 (1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2001, directed that the electoral roll of the Assembly constituency for the time being in force, as prepared by the Election Commission of India published on 11/01/2016 as relates to the ward, shall be published under sub-rule (1) of Rule 6 of the Nagaland Municipal Rules, 2003 as draft publication as indicated in the schedule.

The Commission said no enumerator(s)/supervisor(s)/sector magistrate(s) etc. need to be appointed during the ensuing special revision of the electoral rolls for the existing 19 town/municipal councils. The individual claimant/objector shall directly apply to the ERO for inclusion/deletion etc. Necessary guideline for the revision has been issued for the EROs separately, it said.
The State Election Commission has directed the respective ERO to give wide publicity in this regard and also acknowledge the receipt of this notification to the Commission by return fax/W/T message.
