Elections

Another election is just round the corner, and the public of Nagaland are called upon to elect. Money, frankly speaking will be thrown around again. Though not in the same mass and volume as ‘m.l.a’ elections as we are wont to say! After all it is just a ‘M. P.’ election. Moral voices are saying that we should vote with conscience this time. My contention, leaving aside the conundrum as to the question as to whether the public has a conscience; is- where is the choice? We have the same names being bandied about. Shall we say the tried and tested names? Narendra Modi may have his sins, but nonetheless, he propelled Gujarat into one of the most developed states, if not the most developed state in India. He thus earned his stripes, deservedly, to become the ‘chaiwallah’ prime minister of India. In Nagaland we have had one laloo after another. So basically, the people cannot be blamed, for, we have been made to all along, choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. It has been always from the frying pan into the fire again and again! And then again the problem also is that we as a race or nation are indeed too tolerant. Our patience is long and we are as a people too good! We are satisfied with too little! When roads paved with concrete pavers should be the norm; we are satisfied with muddy streams which pass of as an excuse for roads. There are well meaning, intentioned elders, but they are reluctant to say the least. The hope is therefore vested in the youth. Rise up let it be you! Break the status quo! If a young , capable candidate; male or female rises up, my free vote is for that person! Hallelujah!
