Ekhyo Yan celebrates 50th anniversary

Dimapur, Nov. 17: State deputy chief minister, Yanthungo Patton, has announced a reward of INR two lakhs to the youth from Ekhyo Yan – erstwhile Domokhia village – whoever quality for EAC and DSP through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
Patton made this challenge on the occasion of 50th anniversary celebration of Ekhyo Yan held in the village play ground on November 17. Patton made the announcement to motivate upcoming generations find a respectable position in the society.
Besides, Patton also urged the gathering to give more importance on one’s own mother tongue, saying it identifies one’s culture and identity. He also advised the public to always remember the sacrifices made by the pioneers.
He further advised the villagers to maintain cordial relationship with the neighbouring villages, forgive one another and to live in unity as they celebrate its golden jubilee.
Brief report on formation of the village was shared by Ekhyo Yan golden jubilee convenor-history cum organising committee N Odyuo. According to him, the village was formed in the year 1968 by 37 members and recognition in the year 1996. He also mentioned that the then state home minister Yanthungo Patton had facilitated to change the village nomenclature from Domokhia to Ekhyo Yan in the year 2016. Currently, the village has 202 households.
Short speech was also delivered by Lotha Hoho Dimapur (LHD) chairman Etsungmomo Kikon.
Earlier, the deputy chief minister unveiled the 50th anniversary monolith. Presentation of folk dance and song and one minute silence in honour of pioneers were other highlights of the programme.
