The governor of Nagaland has said that the educational system should complement the demands of current society, industry and economy. PB Acharya says that degrees are not enough and that they are merely a means to building the nation and society. The governor made the statements during his address to the 8th annual school event of Sainik School in Punglwa, in Peren district, on May 9.
Stating Knowledge to be power, Governor PB Acharya said ‘God has given the Nagas the potential talents to excel. What is required of us is to utilize the potentials in the right perspectives’.
Addressing the considerable gathering of parents, teachers and students of Sainik School, Acharya reminded that securing a degree alone was not the end; degrees are only a ‘means to making our country vibrant on all fronts’.
‘Self centeredness and egoism has no place in the modern society. India has the potential to become the greatest country’, he said. “We are a young nation and India is still a land of village and agriculture. The Britishers and the Moghuls attacked India and looted her solely because of her riches. Our endeavors should be to utilize the rich potential to make a better place to live in,” the governor asserted.
‘Everyone may not be qualified for NDA but can excel in other fields…whatever position one may hold in life, the tenets of patriotism should not be forgotten,’ the governor said. He also made a point that ‘our dialect is our identity and that everyone who speaks English well is not always wise or educated. Our present education system should be to suit the present scenario for economic activities, industries, trade and self-sufficiency’.
PB Acharya said that the Indian educational system and institutions were second to none. According to the governor, 30% of the workforce in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the space research agency of the United States government, were from students ‘who passed out from Indian universities’.
The governor also informed that a group of 15 doctors are conducting a free medical camp in Jalukie and Peren town. Also, he informed, 13 teachers will be in the district by tomorrow or so. All these activities and meant to fulfill the aspirations to make the state better, Acharya said.
During the day’s event, the governor of Nagaland also inaugurated a science exhibition and gave away prizes to winning cadets who excelled in various disciplines of school activities.
Earlier in the day, the governor was received by armed cadets who gave him a guard of honor.
Acharya also inaugurated a science exhibition put up by the cadets. He also gave away the coveted ‘Col BS Rathore Best Passing Out Cadet Trophy’ to Cadet Tanthuilubo Zeliang and the Cock House Trophy for the Academic Year 2014-2015 to Doyang House.
Principal of the school, Captain Kanchan Mukherjee, gave the annual report of the institution.
He said the school registered 100% pass result during the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination 2015 for the fourth consecutive year.
He also informed the gathering that three indigenous Naga cadets have qualified for the Union Public Service Commission (National Defense Academy) Entrance Examinations in January this year, creating a school record.
Besides the report, the principal spoke about the strength and achievements of the cadets and students in games and sports and other co-curricular activities.
Government officials from the state, district administration and police establishment of Peren, and military officers attended the event.
