DIMAPUR, APRIL 29

Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) on April 29 had cleaned major drainage in Dimapur town near Nagarjan Police Point junction under the joint supervision of the DMC administrator, H Atokhe Aye, and leaders of Medical Colony and United Colony Ward No. 20.
GBs and Council members of the two colonies have been roping in manpower for the last one week to clean the clogged drain which created artificial floods in at least 12 colonies upstream.
Head GB of United Colony Ward No 20, Imna Longkumer said the garbage thrown into the drain by nearby lounges was one of the main factors causing avoidable clogged drain. “We have taken out beverage bottles from the drain and kept it near the road for the authorities to collect,” Imna said.
Leaders of the two colonies issued stern warning to the public not to throw garbage into the drain. “Defaulters will be fined heavily,” the GB warned. He informed public of the area to throw garbage, after dark, at the roadside opposite Hotel Ne-Li and another place near Nagarjan Police Point so that DMC workers could collect in the morning.
DMC Administrator, H Atokhe Aye, has appreciated the initiative taken by the two colonies to clean the drainage. He appealed other colonies to emulate the activities of the two colonies in maintaining public properties as their own. He also discouraged public against mindless throwing of garbage into the drain.
The two colonies were of the view that if Bank Colony and Police Colony could also clean the drain in their respective jurisdictions, flooding due to clogged drain would be solved instantly.
United Colony Council Chairman, G Kits, said United Colony and Medical Colony have also taken up road filling work opposite Government Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, and cleaned the side drains.
